Here's something my lecturer in 3201 said that got me thinking,

if you have a choice between buying 2 products of similar quality, one is more expensive because the company that produces it pays a good price to the workers, the other cheaper because the company that produces it pays the absolute minimum to workers. which would you choose?

In my opinion, anyone sane would be most likely to choose the former because it's just more economical to do so. But it's also not right to be supporting a company that is like paying the bare minimum. There were many different answers back in class. One of which is, we can't possibly boycott the company that pays the minimum because that would render the already poor workers jobless. And the argument goes on and on. Ethical Dilemma.

Sometimes social work scares me, especially when ethical dilemma is involved. Like when i'm supposed to make an important decision that would affect someone's life. If i screw up, i might just leave a big mark on someone else's life. nevertheless. Well, I'm only in my second year, maybe when i'm in my third year, I'll think differently. ahhhh inadequacies.

On 13 Jan I went for this programme under Kampong Kapor FSC, It's some mentorship programme. The mentorship programme is for children that come from needy families. When i say needy I'm not exactly referring the financial aspect, it include many other aspects. Basically the role of a mentor/volunteer is to provide free tuition to the child and guide the child along in life. The kids under the program are between 7 to 12 years old. I've been to the FSC for some social work assignment visit so the social worker recognised me and thought it'll be good if she can make use of the social work skills. haha i reminded her the 3 others are social work majors too (i went with 3 other ppl from school), in fact they are year 3s, so they should be even more experienced. sigh, yes.. inadequacies, I know.

So now i've a kid under me, I'm still fretting over what to teach her. I need to familiarise myself with the primary 6 syllbus. I need to grow some maths cells in my head.

I'm down with the evils of food poisoning.
I slept my entire wednesday away. Because I haven't had anything thing to eat for the entire of yesterday except for an apple my tummy's feeling all cranky now. I intended to go down and get some food, but gastric problems prevented me from doing so. There's no food at home, not even instant noodles so i fumbled around for home food delivery brochures and the only ones i could find is MacDonald, KFC and Pizza hut. I didn't want my stomach to die on me so i called Pizza hut. They needed a minimum order of $12 so i ordered random stuff to chalk up that amount. No, i didn't get pizzas, because i cannot stand how thick the crust of their pizzas is.

Gah, so now i got to pay $18 for food which i'll probably take only a bite.

And I shouldnt have protested when the doctor wanted to give me a jab, Now i've to take 20 pills a day.

My Christmas present from Sherm. Ah, I've concluded that I can't get white bags or wallet cos they'll just turn black in a matter of days.
I just came back from cell group. Today's caile's first day in Army. It feels funny not to have him around, hearing his signature phrase of "eh! there's food!" followed by his chuckle. And I could so totally feel for Nikki. It reminded me of the times i've been through. And Sherm's ORD-ing in like a week's time. I'm happy for him because he has been waiting for this moment since April 2007.

I'm finally back from China. It has been a wonderful time of fun, tears, laughter, shopping and reflection. It is a part of me that no one can take away. Memories.

I enjoyed the company of the mountains, if felt like i could touch the clouds if i stretch out my hands. Isn't it wonderful to be able to wake up to be surrounded by mountains, shielded from the outside world. A momentary escape from life's troubles. Yes, it's soothing. It's beautiful beyond words.
At night the stars kept us company. I've never imagined myself washing up under the stars (there's no bathroom so we literally washed up under a tap in the freezing cold winter). The sky is so filled with stars its almost as if someone from heaven just dropped a bag of diamonds. There were shooting stars too, almost every night.

It was just a tiny bud when we came, when it was time for us to leave it has already blossomed into a beautiful flower. The only flower on the bare branches in the company of leaves and grass. Isn't our creator wonderful?

I've 3GB worth of pictures to sort out, will post them up soon. It feels weird to be back in Singapore, the feeling of foreignness in a familiar place. Yes, the escapism me shall fade away, addressing issues is better than running away.

Life after exams is really good. In fact there's too little time for me to do everything.
In 12 hours time I'll be in China. It's winter over there now and I'm so excited.

Tada, I think sam's really brave, the hair stylist suggested short hair and she went ahead. I wouldn't have such guts. I like how it slopes down.

check out my eyebags, I haven't been sleeping well. I'm out every single day spending time with friends. There are still some people that I haven't met up with. See, when you're enjoying yourself, time passes faster.

On thursday, it's dinner with the CCC girls :)

my virgin attempt at making Sushi didn't turn out to be that bad after all. The entire friday was spent on preparing sushi, salad for cell group. I attempted to study on saturday, the first 3 hours was rather fruitful. After cara left and Sherm came, my productivity graph decreased at an increasing rate. Here's some pictures to sum up my day.

Sherm and I went to some Hokkaido Hotpot Place at Dhoby for lunch. That restaurant has the best service, the waiters and waitresses are sooo polite.

It's not buffet, so when u order, you can choose to have fish/chicken/pork/beef/seafood.
And they'll deliver this freaking huge platter to your table. The first time i came to this place, I got a shock when they sent the entire fish out to me. They have very good food presentation and in the middle of the meal, the waitress gave us some sour plum drink to help us digest.

Sherm got that huge plate of meat, duh! Of cos it's his, I can't imagine myself eating that amount of meat.
I dislike pork, beef, mutton.

Just in case if you're wondering how much the meal cost, it's about $22 per person after all the taxes and service charge. It comes with starter, a platter of your choice, rice/noodles and desserts.

During the meal, we were debating on the issue of Social Work. Seriously, many people asked me "Why social work?" so many times it's beginning to get frustrating. Their standard response will be "But why? you can't bring in money with that." Seriously, not everyone in this world is so realistic and money minded. I mean isn't it pathetic to spend your entire life pursuing wealth? I know it's good to have money and yadayada. But seriously, life is not all about money. Apparently, many do not think highly of social workers. Sherm actually said anyone can do what social worker does. That is highly untrue, it just shows people do not even know what social work is all about.

I think Singaporeans don't know what's the meaning of fufillment and passion. I've nothing against anyone, just that at times it can get frustrating. I've never regretted choosing SW as my major and I'm glad I did. Really, as long as I love what I'm doing, its enough.

Sherman called the cake "period" cake. (menses) I bought it from a Swiss Bakery at Parkway, It's really yummy. If you have the time you should drop by, it's kind of like a sip-tea-and-relax place. The smell of the pastries is just wonderful.

I know i ought to be shot, Exams are 2 days away and I really should be studying but I ended up shopping today. Sherm got me a pair of shoes from charles and keith. Simple with cute tiny ribbons. He bought himself a topman shirt, @#$$^^%# $70!!!

Anyway, I haven't got anything from Charles and keith for ages and am surprised that their prices seem to have gone up. It used to be 20 something followed by 30 something and now 40 something. Goodness.

You have no idea how happy I am to discover MacDonald's latest creation of Mcspicy double, when they still had the doubles ages ago, I would buy them just for the patty. Yum! For the past one week my breakfast,lunch and dinner are all settled at Science canteen. I am so terribly sick of that place right now, that explains my random craving for McSpicy :)

When I get into the momentum of studying, I kind of like the idea of studying.

Aren't you amazed at how i can actually do shopping (online) when exams are just 13 days away?
I've been feeling rather disoriented lately, so this is just something to cheer myself up. There's gonna be so much changes soon. I'm afraid i can't adapt to it, I'm one person who hates changes.

I actually forgot i have GEM tutorial today, I feel so retarded for forgetting, why in the world would i forget that i have tutorial? Good thing Crystal reminded me. And just last week i forgot about my piano class. See, this is what stress does to me.

I had an awesome weekend and have been eating way too much for my own good. Erm, it might be hard to believe but i actually do face the problem of overeating. I eat as long as there's food in front of me even when i'm full. So friday was cell and there were so much food, saturday was sammy's birthday surprise and i stuffed myself silly with nuggets. Sunday was spent at Timbre, yummy pizzas and beer! I spent so much money over the weekends on birthday stuff and food that i'm quite broke now, not to mention i just paid $600 for my China trip. And i have not shopped for a month, that is something miraculous. I've also acquired the habit of wearing the same few pieces of clothings to sch. Dresses are the best for lazy days.

AND

I finally went onto the Flyer today. Sad to say the world biggest ferris wheel is actually quite boring. The scenery is breathtaking, but after a while things starts to get boring. I wished we went in the day because we can't use flash due to the reflection and that means lousy pictures.

So today turned out to be better than yesterday. Thank god for friends.
I'm in a better mood today so i dug up some pictures taken on 12 oct and decided to post em up. Yeah, 12 oct...

My new haircut, But after about 2 weeks my hair looks the same as before. Messy and grassy whatever you call that. :(
We went to the museum after catching Burn after reading. Seriously, it's the most retarded show i've ever watched, it's not even funny at all. I think I'm kinda slow because the whole cinema or at last half were like laughing away and i was like "huh??? What's so funny about that"

The museum is such a grand place, I wasn't really interested in the exhibitions but i am truly amazed by the grandness of the building. I've always loved buildings with white walls, mega high ceilings and pretty metal detalings like the ones you see in the picture above and below.

My bro's attempt at capturing raindrops. Pretty cool i think, but erm, i have totally no idea how he does it, the knobs and buttons on my camera are just too confusing. I should just stick to auto. Anyway our church has shifted. The new place ain't that bad, but yeah, i kind of still prefer the old place which is so much more convenient.

Somehow life seems more fulfilling this semester, i can't quite make out why is that so. I figured out it must be due to CCC and a closer walk with him. Thank you for giving me everything that i have.

Today during our trip meeting, they showed us pictures of horrifying and erm primitive toilets. I can't believe it, for 3 weeks i'll have to erm settle everything there. I really can't stand gross toilets :( I was hesitating, because other than sucky toilets there's still the cost plus the fact that i'll be away during christmas and New year. But i figured if i can't even start in such simple ways, what more bigger things.

This is what i'm up to every 4th Sunday of the month in church. Taking care of little kiddos. They are so adorable, innocent and pure in their actions. For nursery they are mostly 4 and below so yeah, they are much more easier to handle. What amuses me is the sheepish grin on their face when we catch them doing something naughty. Irresistibly cute.

that aside, my tuesday's here again. The only day of the week which i don't have to wake up early and rush here and there. I'm sitting at the table munching on my 5th Oreo cookie, I was having a random craving for Oreo cookies last night and bought myself a huge box of it. I've another 24 cookies left to be eaten and a huge pile of parcels waiting to be wrapped and posted out.

If we study something just for the sake of grades then it's called mugging, if we truly love what we study then it's called studying. I wish people in sch/around me/Spore aren't so grade oriented. It is such moments that make me wish I'm still a toddler, no worries, no stress, living in my own world of innocence. Escapism? No.

Basically recess week doesn't seem much like recess week because we still have hospital visits and skills lab sessions etc etc.
The only free days left are thursday and friday. Here's some pictures of lunch with Prof Ngiam. I seriously think he's the best prof i've ever met in NUS. I mean which prof takes the initiative to actually know their students better and share their experiences with them over lunch and dinner. And when i say share it's really personal stuff that's shared. I'm very sure the 9 other members of the session had great fun too. And erm, i kind of discovered myself and my friends more too.

Yacht Club, it's really near school. I swear i didn't edit the photos with photoshop. Cara can testify to that :)

So i turned 20 on 19 sept. Frankly speaking, i don't fancy growing old so you can imagine how i dread birthdays. If not for my lovely friends and boyfriend, i would have curled up in bed to sulk. Everyone was really sweet, putting in so much effort for the little surprises that i was given throughout the day. It's not the presents that matter but the efforts of people who care. That's something that took me a few years to understand. I feel so blessed. Thank god for putting lovely people around me, the tremendous love from everyone is something i won't ever forget.

And Sherman was really sweet, he planned a surprise celebration. I was kept in the dark, he told 1001 lies so that i wouldn't in my wildest dream think that he has something up his sleeves. I was seriously in total shock when i saw friends and churchies appearing out of no where. A happy/touched bunny :)

I haven't been updating for quite a while because school has been insanely crazy. My Gek1045 essay's deadline was on 19 sept 5pm and at 19 sept 2am i was still doing some editing. The idea that the weightage of this essay is so high freaks me out a lot, that explains the constant editing. Recess week is finally here.

All right, so today i had a real lousy day because after DG and lunch, my cramps came. It was so bad i had to leave halfway during my GEK1045 lecture. And i actually sat at the toiletbowl for like 15mins because it was just too painful to walk, because of that i didn't go for LM. GRRRRR why why why! i was looking forward to it. But i'm better after a good nap. I was supposed grab a few books from the library today so i can start my essay tonight. I guess i'll have to start tomorrow then. I hate it when plans get screwed up. Weee! thank you cara for driving me back! I tell you she's the best female driver man. Guys who insist females can't drive properly should just eat their own shoes.

Come to my wardrobe pleaseeee.

I've been extremely busy lately, and will still be busy for the next 3 months i foresee. I'm praying really hard for Christmas to come soon. I know it's highly retarded to be thinking of christmas now. Christmas is my favourite time of the year, it makes december a happy month. I got an early birthday present today. Gah, who doesn't like gifts right? A gorgeous pair of jeans! I promise to wear it soon. Jeans and I never quite go together (the last time i wore jeans for an outing was 2 years ago) but yeah, I'm gonna start wearing them again and stop whining to people that i can't fit into jeans.

Anyway, that pair of jeans is from Sherm, he initially planned to get me a rabbit as a surprise (he's real gd at pretending, everytime i tell him about rabbits he always sound disinterested and even tried to convince me not to get it, now i know why), but that planned was foiled when my sister announced that she's buying a Chinchilla (it's arriving on Monday i think). He insisted that clothings is too cheap for a bday gift and wanted to get more stuff. But really, it's the thought that counts and not how expensive the gifts are.

That is a picture of a Chinchilla. It looks half rat/ squirrel/ rabbit to me. (i had to google it to find out what's a chinchilla, initially i thought it was a dog)
I think the one my sister got is in a lighter shade of grey. She paid 400 for it. Not including cage, food, equipments.

My emotions confuses me, sometimes my mind and my heart is incongruent with each other. A part of me wants it to be truely mine, part of me wants to share it. But I'm gonna do the latter because i know i need to give. I believe that what is given will be given back to me someday.

Zouk Flea on Sunday. I thought some of the stuff at the flea were insanely overpriced. But i like flea markets, in Singapore we hardly have real flea markets. I went back with a bag and a top. Nothing fantastic. Talking about Shopping, my F21 items came in the mail today and i'm extremely happy with them. Seriously, buying from f21.com is so much better than from local stores.

I've been awfully busy ever since school started. I'm always struggling to keep my priorities right. i hope this sem i can do what i set out to do. Joining CCC is definitely the right choice, it helps me to rethink what my priorities are. But i'm in a dilemma because LMs are on thursday and i have piano classes on thursday, I don't fancy the idea of leaving before it ends and cabbing down all the way. Hopefully i can change the lesson timing. I was doing the tiny little booklet from CCC, and i kind of got a shock. The amount of time i spend in front of the computer/tv is insane.

i apologize to everyone if i seem to be taking ages to reply to smses, I have to change phone every night and the smses don't get transferred to my old phone. So i can only reply them when i change back my phone.

Life seems so perfect at the moment, part of me worries that it might suddenly burst and everything will be gone. Yes, satisfaction comes hand in hand with happiniess.

So monday was sherm's birthday, we celebrated it on Sunday because i have school on Monday. That was the birthday present i got for him. It was a surprise and it took quite a bit of effort to get that to his home without him realizing it. I'm kind of poor right now because of that, but well, it's worth it :)

Birthday celebration was at Corpthone Orchid Hotel's Palm Asian Brasserie. There's hardly any pictures of people because it feels kind of weird to be camwhoring in front of Sherm's parents.

haha, i'm so expecting him to ask him to take this unglam shot away when he sees it. I had a great time and so did everyone i guess. I seriously need to workout soon. His whole family is weird in the sense that, the amount that they eat doesn't correspond with their size. I seriously wonder where did all the food went to. Mine probably went to my thighs and butt. Some people are just born lucky.

It felt good to be back in school again. Because i haven't been to school for about 3 months, i kind of miscalculated the traveling time and ended up cabbing down to avoid being late.
The sw2105 lecturer is erm pretty funny, the stuff he says are really random.
And thank you simin for the card. It's so thoughtful of you :) its my first time receiving a card full of words (literally)

Today was my free day (hopefully i get the tuts i want so that it'll stay this way) and i didn't want to stone at home so i asked sam out. She's doing a post today so i tagged along.

We were joking about how the dress is for busty people. And sadly, i look like i have nothing at all. haha and that's sam's signature jump shot :)

I really want my NUS days to be something more than just floating in and out of school. I'm truly inspired by Simin and FCMC's cambodia trip. Simin volunteers at the children cancer ward, when i read about that, it got me thinking, what am i doing with my life? Shopping, enjoying? But at the end of the day all those are nothing. Sometimes the little thing that we do may seem really tiny, but it may be the everything to someone else.
